It’s that time of year again, when seasons change and Nike retools some of its most iconic sneakers to reflect those shifting weather patterns. The Air Max 90 looks to be the shoe of the winter, with at least two different iterations that take on cold weather.

Back in June, we previewed the Air Max 90 Sneakerboot Winter, essentially a top-down reinvention, and today we look ahead to something a bit more visually subtle: the Nike Air Max 90 Mid Winter.

Rather than incorporating AM90 elements Nike Air Max 90 VT Femme into what’s effectively a new model — looking at you, Sneakerboot — the AM90 Winter infuses the standard silhouette with weather-proofed seamless construction. The collar is then raised a few inches, and a sock-like inner-bootie is added in, locking the elements out.

He Got Game is a seminal film in Spike Lee’s acclaimed oeuvre, but it’s also something of a cultural watershed, at least at the intersection of basketball and film. So if you want to know what basketball shoes were making waves when the film was filmed in 1997 (released the following year), you can consider the movie something of a time capsule.

Everyone knows about the Air Jordan 13, featured heavily on the feet of Denzel Washington’s Jake Shuttlesworth character, but the Nike Air Foamposite Pro Pearl and Nike Air Hawk Flight both got plenty of screen time as well, being Nike Air Max 90 Homme worn by Ray Allen’s protagonist, Jesus Shuttlesworth.
